The Makioka Sisters

We meet next week at the Manga Museum, so won't actually discuss The Makioka Sisters for nearly five weeks from today. Though it is a light reading assignment, let's read book one (up to page 150 in the English translation) for January 14. This would give us an opportunity to have a discussion on the first book, plus to do plenty of non-book-club reading over the holidays. Happy holidays!

  1. Happy New Year!!

This is just to remind you that we will be meeting tomorrow Thursday 14th at the Library for our first Book Club of 2010.

We will talk about the first book of the Makioka Sisters. In English, that means up to page 150. I'd better do some reading!

  2. James, we missed you today! You know, you can come even if you haven't read the pages, some hadn't finished chapter 2... ehem, ehem. We will still talk about "The Makioka Sisters" next week.

We have a new friend, Sara :)

Masa found out that there is a Tanizaki Museum, and that it is possible to visit the house where he wrote "The Makioka Sisters". So we thought that we need to go on a field trip.
Could people make it this Sunday?

For the next reading, we are thinking of reading "Bel canto", by Ann Patchett. Could everyone confirm they are happy with this, please? Then I will put the order.

    Thank you!

  3. Bel Canto sounds fine by me. I'm pretty busy this weekend, but I would try to make the Tanizaki Museum if the group goes.

    Best to all,

    James
