We've selected Fumi Yoshinaga's Ooku: The Inner Chambers for our next reading. See Izumi about acquiring the text if you haven't already.
Update: The texts are expected on Saturday. Izumi will bring them to KIS for pickup on Monday. Contact her if this doesn't work for you. I'll write again about the reading expectation for Thursday.
Update: Just got the book today, thanks to Izu. I did a quick check and there's a break around page 118 or so--I was trying to read page numbers without looking at the drawings. So let's read to that break for this Thursday (Dec 3), then to the end of the book for next Thursday (Dec 10).
We need to make a decision: the fastest I can get our copies of Ooku is the 1st of December. So we have one meeting with no material (Nov.26).
ReplyDeleteWhat shall we do?
No pressure, but, if we decide to read the manga Sazae, the books will be with us in 24h...
Thanks for the update, Izu. I'm not interested in buying Sazae or in studying it for more than one week in the book club. I would borrow someone's copy and read part of it for next week's meeting, if others are enthusaiastic about reading it.
ReplyDeleteTwo other options are to do a short story in the one extra week (plenty available online) or to do Sazae anyway, and I'll just catch up with the gang when we return to Ooku.
Any of these three is fine by me, and my preference is to read a short story for next week.
Let's try to decide this no later than Thursday. See you then.
Hi there!
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me that you don't really want to do Sazae, but instead would rather do a short story and then dive into the world of manga with Ooku...
We all need to be happy, so, If everyone else is OK, shall we read a short story, then? One of those you sometimes share with me through the internet (or even yours!).
Or we could also read a short book. What do you think of Death in Venice? by Thomas Mann? It's 80 pages. I have a copy in the Library and a personal copy at home, so we could pass it around.
What do you say? And the others, what do you think?
izu.
I suppose that wasn't all that subtle, was it. Thanks for understanding--I guess I'm more interested in literary works at this time.
ReplyDeleteAs for other options, let's bring them all to the table at tomorrow's meeting.
Which reminds me. I've got a bit of reading to do.
Ciao
